Ryoji is a human and a Shadow, an external representation of hatred, regret, and every other horrible human emotion. Born of Nyx and Erebus, he's known as "Thanatos" or "Death," and is the personification of the act. However, his mind is very sympathetic and pacifistic, if not a little anguished depending on his mood. Depending on the phase of the moon, his powers wax and wane. He seems more intense on the full moon, and less so on the new moon. You don't want to know what he feels like on a blue moon. He may feel like he's "incomplete" or a "piece of something," as he's part of Minato. He feels "whole" when they're together.

As a note, this is totally my random interpretation of Ryoji's powers. That's my disclaimer, I'm half pulling this out of my ass, promise. Not much is known about what Ryoji can do. He's both a shadow and a human, teetering between both. In the fight between him and Aegis, he can create swirly shadow winds and crazy barriers that shatter Personae. He can do some pretty wicked things, being the son of the "Mother" of all Shadows, and as the personification of "Death." As mentioned prior, his powers, like any other Shadow's, wax and wane with the moon. That means strength, magic, and frequency of critical hits as well as high odds for him landing a strike with a mental ailment or death. Also other crazy Shadow things. For reference here's a calendar of moon phases for 2010. For the other random things he can do on the full moon you can see him duking it out with Aegis in this spoiler.
